I Whilst the community viewed the Whole School Art Exhibition at ISZL, I organised for my Art Club students to create a live drawing performance. This was inspired by discussions following our trip to the Venice Bienalle where we saw a series of thought provoking contemporary visual art performances throughout the galleries. The students wanted to bring some of the magic back to our school.

I have designed flyers and invitations for many exhibitions. I contribute majorly towards the hanging of exhibitions and have hung up to four per year.

DEPARTMENT ENHANCEMENT

I ran a club with a colleague to create a permanent mural outside the Visual Art department at UWCSEA in 2013. Students created images relevant to the diverse cultures within Singapore and using Beatrix Millhazes as an artist of influence we combined symbolism with colour to create a vibrant entrance to the new Visual Arts department. Students remained committed to this for the entire year.

NUH PLAYBUDDIES (UWCSEA)

From September 2010 until November 2011, I supervised a small group of Middle School students on a weekly trip to the local hospital where they played with the patients on the childrens ward. They ran art and craft activities, taught simple magic tricks, balloon sculpture, played games. Students would set up an activity table in a playroom beside the ward and then invite kids to join them.

UWC DAY CELEBRATION (UWCSEA)

To celebrate the 50th year anniversary of UWC my Year 10 tutor group created a commemorative, large scale painting of the Singaporean skyline. I broke the activity down into manageable steps to ensure these non art students created a quality piece to be hung in the study centre.

WORLD CHALLENGE 2008 (PHHS)

I accompanied 17 A Level students on a trip to the foothills of the Himalayas for a month. The expedition involved many training weekends before leaving the UK. Once in India, we worked in a local school for a week, trekked for two weeks and travelled around the Golden Triangle for the rest of the time.

ART CLUBS

I have managed many clubs and activities throughout my career including Insight Into GCSE Club, Abstract Painting Club, Drama Set Design Club, Open Studio, Gifted & Talented Ceramics Club, exhibition visits and gallery workshop visits.

GIFTED & TALENTED ACTIVITIES (PHHS)

As the Art Department Gifted and Talented coordinator at Prince Henry's, I ran sessions, trips and organised clubs for identified art students. This activity was for gifted students and was inspired by Grayson Perry's 'Print for a Politician'.

OPEN EVENINGS (PHHS)

Open evenings are a good way to showcase the department and the strengths of our students. It is a nice chance to do something that is not on the curriculum such as these large panels which were destined for the main hall.

LANGUAGES DAY (PHHS)

I ran activities for the Art department on the annual Languages day. The piece above was created by a total of 125 Year 9 students who passed through my classroom.
