Testimonial from course participant, 2020

“Whilst reading this article, I thought about experiences where I was coached and the aspects of those experience that helped me. I found that the coach in these experiences had used all of these mindsets at some point. The mindsets are: Relational, Listening, Growth, Accountability, and Support.

An example is the wonderful Deborah Ivey, who coached a group of us in an Art class (after school). She was always keen to listen to your ideas and gave us space to experiment and reach our own ideas. Nothing was ever seen as a failure, just a point to experiment further, guiding us through many techniques to do this. It was a tremendously supportive environment where she shared material and ideas that enhanced our experience, but did not force us onto set and pre-determined paths. I found the whole exercise very liberating and left feeling a sense of accomplishment. On a side note as someone who felt they had the artistic ability of a brick, I left feeling with a joy of painting. To be honest still felt I lacked the ability, but loved the space to be creative!

As I type this, it makes me think, this is what I would like anyone who I have coached to feel, even if at the being we are discussing something that they may find challenging to work on.“

Abstract Elements in the Landscape

Mondays 6.30-8.30pm

6 Sessions (6th, 13th, 20th, 27th Sep & 4th, 11th October 2021)

420 chf (70 francs per session and includes all materials)

This six-week programme will focus on helping you to uncover the artist within through a journey into drawing, expressive mark making, textural surfaces and creative play.

The workshops are designed to follow a pattern aimed to promote creative recovery by unblocking, filling your creative well and allowing you the opportunity to experiment and play in a nourishing and safe environment.

Using Landscape as a starting point, we will explore Abstract Art with natural forms and handmade tools, using inks, watercolour, acrylics and mixed media. Inspired by contemporary artists, we will examine the context of mark-making as you develop your artistic identity.

Outcomes will be varied in size and combine the techniques and processes covered. You can be a complete beginner new to painting, or you may be more experienced and want to explore play and different ways of working. You will learn how to be selective from your work using a “viewfinder” method to visually edit your abstract outcomes.

There is limited availability and workshops will run from 6.30 to 8.30pm in Baar.

The studio is well ventilated and allows room for social distancing. Materials will be organised to avoid sharing as much as possible.

Please feel free to enquire for further details.

Landscape Painting

Thursdays 7-9pm

We will explore how to create a sense of space and depth within an image and use photographic starting points and sketches to support a series of experimental studies.  These will be reworked and developed to create a conclusive outcome based upon your investigations. We will work towards implying a sense of place rather than a detailed and accurate portrayal of the environment and confidence in experimentation and risk taking will be encouraged. Throughout the workshops we will learn how to use watercolour, a range of drawing media, black and white acrylics on papers and our studies will be enhanced through contextual links to provide greater understanding of the genre of landscape.  The course is suitable for beginners and all materials will be provided.

6x 2 hour sessions 420 CHF Including materials.
