IGCSE SCULPTURE

In this Grade 9 unit, students explore the history of sculpture and document how changes in technology have influenced methods over time.

They each respond to the work of one contemporary artist who appeals to them by experimenting with maquettes and positions inspired by the artist of choice.

The sculptures are site specific and created with the viewing environment of the High School Exhibition in mind. Students are responsible for considering how placement can contribute to the reading of the sculpture by the viewer. This is an introduction to the concept of Curatorial Practice in the IB.

There is an emphasis, on experimenting, problem solving and refining. Differentiation takes place through the selection of the artist and increased independence is introduced through structured room for choice.
