Exemplar Vanitas Drawing

 Upon starting the IGCSE students are taken through a series of workshops designed to extend and enhance their drawing skills. The concepts behind the still life compositions are centered around the theme of Vanitas and learners create their own symbolic artworks based around themes of mortality, transience and fleeting earthly pleasures. Basic skills such as line, tone and form are explored in class with an emphasis upon experimenting with different media such as charcoal, chalk, conte, ballpoint pen, fineline pen and ink wash. Photography is used to develop the final outcome and basics in photoshop allow students to achieve strong tonal contrast which is translated into traditional media on large scale drawings.
